Gender Mainstreaming in Governance and Development

The main goal of this programme is to review progress in the integration of gender based planning and budgeting as part of the developmental state machinery of African governments.  Planned reviews include:
• Review of national and regional policies and protocols and their practical impacts;
• Review of gender mainstreaming in electoral, parliamentary and party political policies and regulations;
• Review of affirmative action policies and protocols for education and the business sector.

A number of projects will flow from these reviews including:
• A research and training project on gender based budgeting for Ministries of Finance and Ministries of National Planning;
• A project to develop guidelines for addressing gender based violence during periods of civil conflict.
