EXPLORE AFRICA FORUM
Programmes
Democracy, Governance and Developmental State
Democracy, Governance and Developmental State
The major goal of this Programme over the five year plan period is to review the state of democracy and democratic institutions in Africa. This will provide a basis for designing and implementing a first generation of the Forum’s projects on strengthening democratic institutions in Africa. The members of the Africa Forum will participate more intensely over the next 3 to 5 years, in the various fora that integrate and promote democracy and governance in Africa. These activities allow the members to share their experiences and lessons learnt during their time as sitting executives, as well as lessons and experiences learnt after they left office on activities of the Forum.
In summary the major reviews underway and planned include:
• Review of 20 years of Multi-Party Democracy;
• Review of the NEPAD experience; and
• Reviewing the state of democratic institutions in Africa.
It is anticipated that various projects will be designed and implemented for such interventions as:
• Strengthening democratic institutions;
• Sharing experience and lessons for sitting heads of State and Government.
